Disaster Risk Management
 
Overview
 


The district centre, aims to ensure the effective coordination and implementation of the requirements of the disaster management act no 57 of 2002 and the national disaster management framework of 2005.
This is thorough  establishing  effective mechanisms to prevent or reduce the effects of any major incident of disaster, mitigate the severity of consequences of   incidents or disasters, prepare for emergencies, respond rapidly and effectively to major incidents or disaster and implement post-disaster recovery and rehabilitation within the district. This is achieved through effective monitoring, integrating, coordinating and directing disaster management activities of role-players and communities

 

Objectives of Department


The main objective of the department is to effectively meet the requirements of the disaster risk management act and framework. This is through effectively meeting all the disaster risk management Key performance areas and enablers.
The Key performance areas are as follows:

  1. Institutional  Capacity
  2. Risk Assessment
  3. Risk Reduction
  4. Response Recovery and Rehabilitation

The Enablers are as follows:

  1. Information Management and Communication 
  2. Education, training ,public awareness and research
  3. Funding
